Generous to a Fault

READ : Psalm 112:1-10

Generosity reveals a heart that overflows with love. People who are generous are kind and open-handed, noble-minded and lavish. Generous people bring joy to others. They reflect the very nature of God who created us and to whom we are accountable. See how generous God is in the giving of life and in sending both rain and sunshine. He extends mercy to the sinner who deserves no mercy. He grants forgiveness to those who have broken his laws. He restores the wandering reckless son. God’s generosity is unconditional to all.

Generosity is touchable. You can’t prove it with talk; you show it by action. In Formosa, two Christian lepers took a third leper into their little dwelling at the government leprosarium. Although the two lepers had hardly enough for themselves, they stretched their rations and made them do for three. They were guided by Jesus’ word, “Love each other as I have loved you” (John 15:12).

A generous flood of support has been shown for victims and grief-stricken family members in the United States since the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. Much more, God’s giving of his son demonstrates his unmatched generosity and we are stunned.

Our Father, help me to be generous like you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
