READ : Micah 4:1-2
The prophet Micah came at a very low point in the history of God’s people. The kingdom was divided. Strong enemies already conquered Israel, the northern half. The southern half, Judah, was hoping against hope not to face the same fate. Jerusalem was encircled and about to fall to invading armies.
The Lord’s message to them revealed his greater purpose for them and an even better future for Jerusalem. This city of God will be the starting point for the spread of the gospel to the entire world.
This is exactly what Jesus promised: “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem . . . and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). The Word of God did go forth to four corners of the world, beginning on the Day of Pentecost starting right there in Jerusalem.
That was the beginning of “the last days.” But the last days go on. God’s promise to Abraham for the blessing of all families of the earth (Genesis 12:3) is being carried out through Jesus’ great commission.
