I'd Give Anything to Know!

READ : Deuteronomy 29:29
1 Corinthians 2:9-10

Coffee mug in hand, I scan the morning paper for anything interesting. What’s this? My horoscope for the day-wow! How do they know all this stuff about me? Maybe it’ll tell me if I ought to take that new job.

We have all wished for a crystal ball at one time or another. Should I date this boy, that girl? Has God chosen that person for me? Should I take this job, buy that house? If only we could see into the future!

But is that God’s plan for us? Consider the reading for today and then ask yourself: What does it say about my trust in God’s ability to take care of my future if I am always wanting to know more than his Word has shown me? What does it say about my trust in his plans? His goodness? Does my wanting to know more indicate that I doubt his ability to design and carry out a good plan for my future?

God knows what we need to know, what we are ready to know, what is good for us to know. He has revealed it sufficiently in his love letter to us, the Bible. The heart and will of God revealed in those words are ours for now and for all eternity. When we seek revelation beyond those words, we insult the adequacy and integrity of God.

Forgive me, Father, for seeking to know too much. May I love you more by trusting your heart.
