READ : Philippians 3:10-12
Has God given you a life purpose or goal? My husband Bill found his when a teenage friend explained the gospel to him one evening while walking home together. Bill embraced it gladly as wonderful good news. He still celebrates that night with deep gratitude. At the same time Bill’s friend gave him a Bible verse which became his life goal: “You did not choose me, but I chose you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last” (John 15:16).
Paul defines his life purpose in our reading-“I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection.” Then he goes on to explain what that means for him. Paul’s vision of Christ’s suffering and post-resurrection life sustained him through the heights and depths of his ministry. What is your Christian vision or goal? Have you heard God’s call and are you truly set free to serve only Christ?
Setting goals for our daily lives is nothing new. Teachers must write lesson plans. Ministers must draft mission statements. Politicians must build platforms. Why not ask God for a goal or vision for your life so you will not be sidetracked or deterred from living for him?
Lord, give me a life vision and goal that will challenge and direct me to reach the highest and best goals. Amen.
