And They'll Know We Are Christians

Susan Verwys

READ : Colossians 3:1-17

Since . . . you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above. (v. 1)

When my son Christian started kindergarten at Sylvan Christian School, he proudly announced to his classmates that the school was named after him! Then he started paying attention to the world around, discovering that there were churches, schools, bookstores, radio stations and lots of people who called themselves Christian.

It didn’t take long for Christian Verwys to learn that all those places and people were named in honor of someone much greater than he. What a privilege and an awesome responsibility to use the name of Christ to describe ourselves! How easy it is to call ourselves Christians and to forget about being Christ-like in our everyday life!

Do others outside your faith circle know you are a Christian? Spend some time reflecting upon your Christianity today. It’s not a name to be taken lightly.

Lord, help me to be worthy of your calling me to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, our Lord. May I never distort or demean the fact that I am a Christian.
