READ : 2 Corinthians 3:17-18
We . . . beholding the glory of the Lord, are being changed into his likeness. (v. 18 rsv)
We often observe that when people live together, they grow to resemble each other. During the time that our family has lived in Japan, we have taken on some characteristics of Japanese culture. I notice the same thing when I meet my sister’s family who lived in South America for a time. Their speech and gestures resemble the liveliness of Latin culture, whereas our family seems quieter by comparison.
In the same way, as we walk in faith with Jesus Christ, we should grow to resemble him. If we are in touch with Jesus, his attitudes will begin to be our attitudes. His love and grace should be increasingly evident in our lives. We often talk about our salvation as though it is only a completed action. But there is a continuing aspect as well. We are also being saved. In this continuing process we are being shaped to resemble our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who know him well reflect his beautiful appearance. That appearance should include the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22?23-love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Loving Lord Jesus, help me to resemble you more each day and to reflect your beauty to the people I meet today.
