Enjoy Your Trip!

We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path . . . (v. 3 niv)

In the darkness of her blindness, a woman named Sarah somehow navigated her way to church. You may not appreciate the difficulty of her task if you haven’t lived in the very rural areas of Kenya. The footpaths there are strewn with loose rocks, tree roots, and gullies just waiting to trip you. Can you imagine the cruelty if someone were to make Sarah’s way more treacherous by intentionally placing a stumbling block to trip her?

And yet, how many times a day do we, as sighted believers following the Light of the World, put stumbling blocks in the paths of those who don’t yet know and worship Jesus? A careless word or gesture that diminishes and discourages. An attitude that says, “You’re not worth the effort.” A full-of-self busyness that doesn’t take the time to care.

Would you understand Paul’s ministry as full-of-self or self-less? How would you describe your life at home, at school, or at work? Are you sweeping the path ahead of others, making their way to faith easier? Or are you throwing down stumbling blocks that trip those who can’t yet see? Think carefully-and act lovingly-so others may praise God!

Lord God, forgive me for acting selfishly and thoughtlessly. Teach me to love like you do.
