A Chosen People

God chose you . . . (v. 13)

Are you aware of what God has done for you? Sometimes it is helpful to pause and ponder that question. What has God been doing in my life?

Earlier the Thessalonian Christians were reminded that they belonged to God. Good news! Here Paul shares the gospel in summary form. God loved you, and chose you for salvation. The Holy Spirit set you apart and transformed you.

Room 278, Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, Michigan. My good friend John was a patient there. At age 44 he suffered from terminal cancer. John was a rather new believer, only a couple of years old in the Lord. This was a thunderous blow. He knew he would die very soon. So many regrets: a recovering alcoholic, John had waited long to become a Christian. Now he was concerned for his old drinking buddies. He asked if I would be willing to meet him and two friends in his hospital room to share the gospel story. And so we did. Both friends prayed to receive Christ. Then one of them raised her hands and exclaimed, “Now I’m free!”

How very good to know we are free as people chosen by God-free to be all God wants us to be.

Lord, thank you that we know who we are, the chosen people of God in Christ. Amen.
