God Is Faithful

READ : 2 Thessalonians 3:3-5

The Lord is faithful . . . (v. 3)

Is that really true? Sometimes I wonder: Is God always faithful?

Oh, I know, that is what the Bible says, more than once. I recall Lamentations 3:22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” One of my favorite Bible verses is 1 Corinthians 10:13, “God is faithful, and he will not let you be tested beyond your strength, but with the testing he will also provide the way out so that you may be able to endure it.” Good news!

The devil was working hard on the Christians in Thessalonica. Such a small, vulnerable minority in a large, hostile community. Did God love them? No question about that. But there were probably some moments of weakness when they would think more about the problems that surrounded them than of the Lord’s faithfulness. Here is a good word for them: “The Lord is faithful.”

We all have to live in the world as it presently is. We are not in heaven yet. This is a broken, pain-filled world. The challenge for us all is to look beyond the here and now, and believe and claim the Bible’s inspired promise that God is faithful-all the time.

Father, thank you for your faithfulness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
