READ : Nehemiah 2:11-20
I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem. (v. 12)
Our congregation in Orlando, Florida, is putting the finishing touches on its new building. This 800-member body of believers hopes to be worshiping in the new facility within a month.
Our senior pastor is not a man who worships buildings. He doesn’t necessarily see a new building program as the sign of a successful church or a Christ-centered ministry. However, our pastor does believe that God has called him to lead the people of our church in building a new sanctuary to worship God.
Nehemiah heard a similar word from God. He sensed a similar calling in his life. God placed upon Nehemiah’s heart a passionate burden to rebuild the walls around Jerusalem – this would serve as a sign of God’s blessing and restore a measure of dignity and security to the nation of Israel. Nehemiah didn’t hesitate. He knew that God’s hand was upon him. He knew the sovereign Lord had given him favor with the human king Artaxerxes. Nehemiah understood the charge that almighty God had placed upon him and responded with faithful action.
Do you dare to build something great for God?
Lord, strengthen me to be faithful to the call you’ve given me. Please grant me success as I work diligently in doing your work.
