The Healthy Disciple Learns and Grows in Community

READ : John 21:1-14

When they did [obey Jesus], they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. (v. 6 NIV)

Trait Four: The healthy disciple is involved in spiritual and relational growth in the context of a safe and affirming group of like-minded believers.

Did you ever wonder why God placed so many “one anothers” in the Bible? The New Testament exhorts us to love one another, confess our sins and pray for one another, care for and greet and encourage and bear with and serve one another (just to name a few). Could it be quite possibly that God actually intended for faith communities to learn to live out the “one anothers” today? Absolutely!

When disciples obey Jesus together, “hauling the net” is nothing short of pure joy. When the church learns how to fulfill all the “one anothers” in the context of healthy environments for spiritual growth, then the world will come to know the Savior for real.

Commit today to improving the health of your spiritual life by growing up into Christlikeness in unity with your brothers and sisters in the faith. Ask God to lead you into an affirming group of believers who will hold you accountable for obedience to Christ. Mutual accountability – remember those “one anothers” – is the key to discovering the joy of journeying in community.

Lord, help us to reach out and love one another.
