The Healthy Disciple Networks with the Body of Christ

READ : John 17:20-26

May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me. (v. 23 NIV)

Trait Nine: The healthy disciple actively reaches out to others within the Christian community for relationships, worship, prayer, fellow-ship, and ministry.

Unity. A small word with gigantic meaning. The implications of genuine spiritual unity are in direct proportion to the fulfillment of Jesus’ prayer for building the kingdom of God. Jesus wants us to take part in building his kingdom. It will require that we participate prayerfully in uniting the people of God.

Unity. For Jesus’ disciples, it was essential that they embrace one another’s differences of background and vocation. Why would it be any different today? He’s not asking us to water down the gospel in order to have feel-good connections with the diversity of all who claim to be Christians without solid biblical theology. He’s inviting us to network with those who share our convictions and embody the Great Commission (Matt. 28:16-20).

Unity. If Jesus made it the focus of this chapter-long prayer (John 17), we should certainly make it a part of our prayer today. Ask God to give you a heart to discover the richness of the diversity of the body of Christ. This will lead us all into greater unity.

Help me, Lord Jesus, to strengthen the unity of the body of Christ through my love, prayers, and service.
