How Shall They Hear?

How can they hear without someone preaching to them? (v. 14 NIV)

Marilyn Lazlo, a Wycliffe Bible translator working in Papua New Guinea with a remote island tribe, was visited one day by another tribe who had heard she was writing “God’s talk” on a banana leaf. They begged her to come to them and do the same in their language. She tried to explain that her work was not yet complete. Repeatedly they begged her to come. Finally, she prayed with them for the Creator God to send someone.

Months later, she fulfilled a promise to visit them. To her surprise, they had built a church! “Has a missionary come?” she asked.

“No, but we prayed to the Creator God. We want to be ready.”

She tentatively queried, “What if no one comes?”

“We wait.”

Of the 6,903 living languages, more than half do not have the Bible, representing over 400 million people. If these people are going to learn about Jesus Christ, they need to hear the gospel in their own language. How will they hear if no one goes? You may be God’s answer to someone’s prayer – either in going yourself, or helping send someone else!

Father, make me an instrument of your grace for those who have had no opportunity to hear of you.
