The Son of God

Steve Macchia

READ : John 1:1-14

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (v. 14 NIV)

Any parent would agree: the birth of a child is a miracle. Our children seem to us, at the instant of their birth, perfect creations, spotless (but wrinkled!) and a wonder to behold.

The miracle of Jesus’ birth was amplified by his conception through the Holy Spirit. Jesus was truly and in every way imaginable the Son of God. He lived among us as God’s greatest gift to planet earth, and to behold him was to look directly into the face of God.

When we look at the face of our children, we see reflections of ourselves. It may be in the sparkle of their eyes or the shape of their nose. In them we see our lineage unfold and our family continues to a new generation.

With the Son of God’s arrival, the line of his kingdom is extended to new generations. And we have the privilege of expanding God’s family by presenting Christ to the world in all the grace, truth, and glory he deserves.

Lord, give me a grateful heart for the joy and privilege of serving the Son of God as a full-fledged member of your family.
