READ : John 2:1-11
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” (v. 5 NIV)
I vividly recall sitting at the top of the stairs, listening intently to the conversation of my parents and their guests late into the evening. Though I was supposed to be asleep, their parties intrigued me and I did not want to miss a word that was spoken.
When Jesus arrived at the wedding in Cana, his mother and disciples were invited as well. Well into the party, when the wine was all gone, Jesus instructed the servants to fill jars of water to the brim . . . and by the time they were poured out for the guests it flowed as fine wine.
Any who watched and listened closely saw this miraculous transformation. For the disciples, this dramatic revealing of his glory brought about their faith in the Son of Man. Jesus had not only expressed his humanity by his presence at the wedding, but his miracle revolutionized the celebration and filled his disciples with awe.
What will it take for you to put your trust in the Son of Man today? May the eyes of your heart be open to his presence and life-transforming power. Listen intently to his words – but not just from a distance. He invites you to “come downstairs” into his very presence!
Lord, help me to gratefully acknowledge your presence with ever deepening trust and faith. Amen.
