The Divine Teacher

READ : John 3:2-21

No one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. (v. 5 NIV)

Sometimes the only way to save a plant is to uproot it and find a heartier place for it to grow. Otherwise, the plant will wither and die without producing the harvest it was intended to create. I’m no green thumb, but at a minimum I understand the theory!

When Jesus suggested to Nicodemus, “unless a man is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (v. 3), he was teaching him a basic faith lesson. Nicodemus’ essence as a man wouldn’t change in this process, but his spiritual rebirth would transform his heart and usher in a new way of living. In order for his life to be saved, Nicodemus needed to be transplanted through water and the Spirit. Then and only then would he enter the kingdom.

New believers are like tender re-potted plantings of the Lord. They need lots of love and attention if they are to continue to grow and bear fruit. The Gospels are replete with the divine teachings of Christ and are the best nourishment for feeding all re-born, re-potted souls. Is there someone within your reach that needs some tender loving kingdom care today?

Lord Jesus, teach me your truth today so that the roots of my faith will grow deeply into the soil of your love.
