READ : John 9:1-39
While I am in the world, I am the light of the world. (v. 5 NIV)
Lighthouses are firmly planted in strategic locations along dark and rocky shorelines. They are positioned there to provide much needed warning and guidance to ships at sea. Even their faint hints of light from miles off shore provide direction to vessels in search of safe passage and home port.
When Jesus walked this earth, he was himself a bright beacon of light in a dark and needy world. His light shone brilliantly every place he went, particularly for those who were hopeless, hungry, or hurting.
In this passage, we witness once more the compassion of Christ displayed. Sent by Jesus to wash in the pool of Siloam, the blind man returned home seeing. He had been healed of his infirmity and for the first time in his life he had the joy of beholding the light of the world.
Jesus is the Light of the World. His presence shines brightly before us as we seek safe harbor and follow his way home. As you come alongside others who are walking in darkness today, encourage them to trust the light of Christ.
May the light of Christ guard my heart, guide my way, and gracefully lead others to safe harbor. Amen.
