The Resurrection and Life

READ : John 11:1-44

I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies. (v. 25 NIV)

Jesus wept. He loved Lazarus. He wanted to be there for Mary and Martha. Then Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, not out of a selfish desire for his company or even to show off his miraculous abilities. Jesus set Lazarus free from his grave clothes to display the glory of God.

Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days. The mourners had come to comfort his sisters, who believed that had Jesus only been there on time, their brother would not have died. Meanwhile, Martha was on the hunt for Jesus. After she found him, Jesus set out to wake his beloved friend who had fallen into death’s sleep.

Christ’s awesome power dispels the darkness of death. “I am the resurrection and the life,” Jesus told Martha. “Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord, I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God.”

Those who believe in the resurrection and the life will never die, in the sense that earthly death leads us into God’s presence. Do you believe him today? If so, then express your heart of love and gratitude to the Lord and be sure to share that love with all who have yet to believe.

Lord, I trust you today to reveal your love. Open the eyes of my heart to see your glory!
