Majesty on High

Tammy De Ruyter

READ : Psalm 93

Majestic on high is the Lord! (v. 4)

The whirling rush of the blades accelerated as the helicopter slowly rose. The Maui Air Tour had begun. As my friends described their vacation experience, more than two weeks later, they were instantly transported back to that awe-inspiring ride. Lush, misty valleys; soft green mountains unfolding into dark, rocky crags; the Pacific waves pounding the island’s shore. And of course, the “dormant” volcano – massive in size and potential power. The diversity, beauty and majesty of creation was overwhelmingly evident to my friends, and they were moved to tears. They had profoundly encountered the holiness and majesty of God.

From the beginning, the Lord has displayed his creative power. “He has established the world; it shall never be moved” states verse 1 of Psalm 93. His reign is from everlasting to everlasting. Like my friends, the psalmist also looked out upon his world and stood amazed at the majesty of God. He views the splendor of creation and is astonished, but more striking, he notes there is still no comparison to the Lord. God’s majesty is “more majestic than the thunders of mighty waters” he cries, “more majestic than the waves of the sea” (v. 4). Praise the God of majesty and worship the Creator-King!

Father, we worship you as king, we praise you for creation, and proclaim you as Lord. How majestic is the Lord!
