READ : John 14:1-13
I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (v. 6)
Christians sometimes stereotype people of other faiths. We often portray them as one-dimensional stick figures who need only the knowledge of Christ to make them happy and whole.
Perhaps I felt that way too before I actually met and befriended several Muslims in Nigeria. I quickly learned that Muslims, like many non-Christians, were not eager for the gospel. Unlike a one-dimensional stick figure looking to fill a void, most of my Muslim acquaintances were happy with their lives and their faith.
Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This is the uncompromising truth of the gospel and the message Christian missionaries must spread. But Christians must first be careful not to offend or to mock the faith of nonbelievers who are often content and even proud of their religion. Giving needless offense only jeopardizes our Christian witness.
Believers can and should unapologetically proclaim the truth of Christ, the world’s only Savior. But only the work of the Holy Spirit can bring nonbelievers to faith in Jesus.
Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of salvation. We pray that your Holy Spirit transforms the hearts of those who hear the Good News.
