Blessed to Be a Blessing

READ : Genesis 12

I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. (v. 2)

My work in Nigeria did not involve me in church planting, preaching, or one-on-one evangelism. My role was as a teacher in an international Christian school, and my students included the children of missionaries, international business people, and native Nigerians. My express purpose was to teach—not necessarily to convert students to Christianity. However, I was blessed in my role as a teacher to be a blessing to my students.

I encouraged the Christian children in their faith, and I was always ready to give an answer for the hope within me to the non-Christian students. I don’t know to what extent I influenced my pupils for Christ, but I hope God somehow used me to touch the life of at least one person and perhaps even bring him or her to faith in Christ.

As with Abraham, you sometimes simply need to be in the place where God calls you, and let him work through you. If you make yourself available to God, you can be sure that he will bless you to be a blessing to others.

Dear Lord, call us to where you want us to serve, and bless us to be a blessing to others. Amen.
