A Season for Everything

READ : Ecclesiastes 3

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven. (v. 1)

I would like to go back to the mission field someday, but now does not seem like the right time. My husband and I recently bought a house, we have a newborn baby, and we are tied to various other commitments. Certainly, it’s possible for us to uproot and leave for the mission field, but we do not feel God’s call to do so. It does not feel like the right season.

The writer of Ecclesiastes points out that there is a season for everything under heaven, and when we reflect on our own lives, we see how true this is. Sometimes we are content to enjoy a particular season. Other times, we are restless and look longingly to the next season. God, however, calls us to be patient, to seek his will continually, and to realize that he has a purpose for each season in our lives. I must remind myself of this fact even as I look forward to a time when I can return to the mission field.

What season of life is it for you? If you’re restless, maybe God is calling you to something new, but like the apostle Paul you can learn to be content whatever your circumstances.

Dear Lord, give us guidance in each season of our lives. Amen.
