Look, He Comes!

READ : Song of Solomon 2:8-17

Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . . (v. 8)

In the history of the Christian church nothing has instilled more courage or spawned greater hope than the promise of the return of Jesus Christ! These verses from the Song of Solomon remind us that our weekly confession “. . . from thence he shall come to judge the living and the dead” is actually a world-wide prayer that will one day be answered. Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . .

For dear African brothers and sisters living in the shadow of AIDS and the haunt of constant hunger we cry: Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . .

For friends in Christ in the Middle East whose hymns of praise are drowned out by the engines of war or muffled by the threat of governmental reprisal we cry out: Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . .

For faithful followers of the Beloved in Latin America whose faithful following forces them to oppose repressive regimes, we cry out: Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . .

For unsuspecting half-believers in the West living lives desensitized by our addiction to “muchness” and “manyness” we cry out: Look, he comes, leaping upon the mountains . . .

Today’s reading from the Song of Solomon is a call to prayer.

PRAYER

Come, Lord Jesus, come! Amen.
