READ : The Song of Solomon 7:10-13
Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the fields, and lodge in the villages … (v. 11)
Come, my beloved … One glorious day, every believer will hear the Beloved say to him or her,
Come, my beloved … Matthew Henry, whom I quoted respectfully a few days ago, says that his father Philip was fond of saying, “With what I have I am grateful much; with what I am promised grateful more; all this and heaven too!”
Recently I conducted a funeral for a very godly elderly woman. After the funeral one of her dear friends shared with me the moments she had spent with Gerry the night before she died. “Are you afraid to die?” the woman gently asked Gerry. She answered, “Yes, I was until last night!” “What happened?” the friend queried. Gerry responded, “Last night when my children left me I was overcome by a sense of someone being in the room. Turning toward the door I saw an angel standing there who said, ‘Gerry, it’s about time you came to heaven! The Lord’s been waiting for you!’”
Come, my beloved, let us go forth into the fields, and lodge in the villages …
The Song of Solomon gives us all the warrant we need to exclaim with Philip Henry, “All this and heaven too!”
Put the hope of glory within us, Lord! Amen.
