Tireless Service

READ : Galatians 6:9-10

So let us not grow weary in doing what is right, for we will reap at harvest time, if we do not give up. (v. 9)

Pastor Avelino Mutilima produces daily Words of Hope radio programs in Mozambique’s Lomwe language. For sixteen years his Bible-teaching ministry has borne remarkable fruit. Over 360 churches have been started through Avelino’s Weherya Mwa Yesu broadcasts. Beginning with a small nucleus of new converts, the membership of many listener churches now numbers in the hundreds.

Avelino often travels on extended preaching tours. Many flock to the services which are usually held outdoors because of the crowds. Some observers describe Avelino as the “Billy Graham of Mozambique.”

I have been privileged to accompany Avelino on three preaching tours. The experience is always exhilarating and exhausting. A typical day involves multiple lengthy services in different locations and hours of travel along dusty, bumpy roads. After the services, listeners crowd around Avelino seeking pastoral counseling. Day after day, he maintains this grueling schedule. Even at home in Mocuba, Avelino must schedule most of his program recording sessions during evening hours because so many people come to seek his counsel and encouragement during the day. A Lomwe evangelist recently testified: “Many Mozambicans have been saved because Avelino has not grown tired in wholeheartedly serving his people and his Lord.”

Thank you, Lord, for tireless servants who faithfully proclaim your saving gospel.
