READ : Colossians 3:1-17

Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus. (v. 17, niv)

Linda stood in front of a typical suburban congregation. She’s a doctor, attractive, sophisticated, and witty. She would fit right in, but actually lives and works in a rural area of a poor Asian country. It’s so remote winter accessibility is by plane only. Other times you take an awful dirt road.

Her clinic and home are quite primitive, though she does have another foreign doctor as a work partner and support from other Christians in the country. They are the only medical help in a huge area. There are opportunities to share faith in a place with no church or other witness.

Linda feels useful and fulfilled. She does it for the sake of Christ. My point with that congregation was to neither feel sorry for Linda nor be in awe of her. She was just following God’s will. I did say if she could serve Jesus in this way, they could too where they lived and worked.

The Christian faith is a 24/7 deal. It involves every part of life. It’s seeing my work, whatever it is, as ministry. Ditto for all other relationships and activities. Missions is every believer’s business, all the time.

God, thank you for calling and empowering me to serve you in all I do. Amen.
