Access to Grace

READ : Romans 5:1-5

. . . our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand. (vv. 1-2)

I can go into my office at work anytime I want. I have this keycard, which I hold up to an electronic reader. I hear a beep and a click, and access to the building is mine.

What would it take to have a keycard to heaven, so that you could enter into God’s presence anytime you wanted? Paul tells us here: All it takes is Jesus and faith in him. Through such faith we become justified before God, receive his saving grace, and have access to him!

Think of it! I have never had access to the president of the United States or the premier of Canada, but I have access to the Creator of the universe! I can enter into his presence at any time and discuss with him what is on my mind. And he listens, as a tender and loving Father would.

There are other benefits to being justified by faith. In addition to access to God, we also have peace with God, and the firm hope of sharing in God’s glory, and joy even in suffering, and God’s love poured into our hearts. What incredible blessings—and all through trusting in Christ!

God, thank you for letting me enter your presence and experience unspeakable peace and joy. Amen.
