READ : Romans 5:6-11
But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. (v. 8)
During my grade school days, I had some great friends. We did all kinds of things together, and I enjoyed being with them. I would do anything for them.
But there were also a couple of classmates I didn’t like at all. They teased and pestered me a lot. I stayed far away from them. They never did anything for me, and I never did anything for them.
What a contrast to the love of God! Our sin is like slapping God in the face. As we trample his laws and break his commands, God has every reason to stay far away from us. But instead he loves us! He loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for us even while we were his enemies! Anyone can love a friend; who but God could love his enemies?
What incredible love! In fact, it is that expression of God’s love that has turned us from his enemies into his friends. Now God wants us to turn around to our fellow human beings and love them in the same way. “Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another” (1 John 4:11).
God, thank you for your incredible love for me. Help me to love others in that same way. Amen.
