READ : Ephesians 6:10-20
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (v. 11, niv)
Men and women are often complete opposites when it comes to packing. A man will throw a few things in a bag and be ready to go, while a woman finds the largest suitcase cramping her style. In the end, the man is usually under-prepared, while the woman is way over-loaded!
It’s hard to find the proper balance, the golden mean between two extremes. C.S. Lewis said that Christians make two errors when it comes to Satan. We either give him no credence at all, leaving us vulnerable to attack, or we are so obsessed with his power that we see a demon behind every bush.
Any talk of Satan must begin with God’s sovereign control. He is over and above all creation, and victorious over Satan’s schemes. However, Scripture is very clear about Satan’s activity in this world and our need to resist it. Why would Paul exhort us to put on battle armor if there was no battle to fight? We must prepare for battle by fully encasing ourselves with the armor of God—covered with the truth of the Word of God, the righteousness that comes from faith, the salvation of the gospel, and prayer.
Lord, help us to see where we are under attack, and help us depend on you to respond. Thank you for your victory. Amen.
