READ : 1 Corinthians 15:51-57
We will all be changed. (v. 51)
How would you feel if one day life was “normal” and the next it was never the same? It happened to Laura, a wife and mother in the prime of life. Despite suffering catastrophic change, Laura embodies a gentle, Christ-like spirit that most of us never attain.
She was scheduled for routine surgery. As the anesthesia began, however, her body rejected the drug. Seizures gripped her frame and oxygen stopped flowing to her brain. Emergency procedures revived her, but by the time Laura regained consciousness everything was different. Her life had changed forever in that instant.
She can’t feed herself, walk, or go to the bathroom alone. Yet she smiles often, her eyes radiate with joy, and her sweet spirit is a delight to be around. She is clothed in gentleness, not as a woman who was, but as a woman who is and will be.
One day Jesus will return. As he appears through the clouds all creation will know that he is Lord. Then we will be changed “in the twinkling of an eye.” Laura—and all in Christ—will have a new body. As quickly as her life was transformed in this world, it will be transformed again in his world.
We await that day, O God, when “we shall be changed” for the last time. Come quickly, Lord Jesus!
