Jesus said . . . “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26, niv)
In the years since my grandmother’s death, my grandfather has never visited her grave. There is nothing wrong with going to the cemetery to remember a loved one, but Grandpa views it as pointless. She’s not there. Her faith in Christ means that her spirit is no longer in a hole in the ground. She lives in heaven, enjoying the very presence of Christ.
My grandmother had to go through death before she could enter her heavenly home, but Enoch never died. After 365 years, the Lord just took him. How could this man be so blessed as to bypass death? The Bible just says that he walked with God and pleased him.
Walking with God and pleasing him will not ensure that we will avoid physical death, but it can guarantee that we will not die spiritually. Humanly speaking, pleasing a perfect God is impossible. But we can please him by accepting his Son Jesus Christ. Once we invite Jesus into our lives, we have the assurance that even though we die, we will live with him forever. Now, that is faith for living!
Thank you, Lord, for sending Jesus. Strengthen our faith in your Son, so we can live eternally.
