READ : Genesis 6:9-22
Noah was six hundred years old when he went into the boat to escape the flood, and he did everything the Lord had told him to do. (Genesis 7:5-6, cev)
After rooming with me during a retreat my friend commented, “I was amazed at your determination.” Even though I didn’t do anything that showed extra resolve, he saw me getting ready and was impressed with the patience it took for me to dress myself. I guess one advantage of having cerebral palsy is having to learn how to stick to a task until it is finished.
My persistence is nothing compared to the faithfulness of Noah. When no one else cared what the Lord said, Noah still had faith. This famous builder spent one hundred twenty years building the ark. Despite how long it took, Noah followed God’s blueprints exactly. After years of faithful construction, he and his family, along with all the animals, were safe inside the boat when the flood waters began to rise.
As water engulfed the earth, Noah must have been grateful that he had stuck to it. Having the faith to remain steadfast to the Lord for the long haul is the key to riding out life’s difficulties. When we are obedient to the Lord, he will see us safely through.
Lord, give us the persistence of Noah to remain faithful to you, especially when life’s problems begin to rise around us.
