God's Wrath

John Koedyker

READ : Micah 5:10-15

And in anger and wrath I will execute vengeance on the nations that did not obey. (v. 15)

These are verses that most people do not like to hear. This is not how we like to think about God. God angry? God wrathful? God executing vengeance? How can that be? Isn’t God loving and forgiving? These are the kinds of verses that give the Old Testament a bad name in certain circles. We would rather hear that God is gracious and loving. After all, doesn’t the Bible say that God is love?

Yes, of course it does! And we can be thankful that God does love us and demonstrated that love by sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. It is through the cross of Christ that we can have our sins forgiven. Still, forgiveness does not come automatically. We must ask for it and trust Christ as Savior.

Many people today would like to remold the image of God to fit cultural opinion. God is love, they say, and therefore he would never condemn anyone to hell. But it is also true that God is holy and just. Those who disobey and refuse to listen will some day have to face judgment. Now is the day of salvation and opportunity. But judgment will come. Are you ready? Don’t delay. Trust Christ today!

Lord Jesus, help me to trust in you alone. Amen.
