A Plentiful Harvest

READ : Isaiah 55:6-11

So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (v. 11)

The power of the Bible cannot be contained. It is the living Word that proclaims God’s message of reconciliation in Jesus for all humanity. Since the time of the Reformation in the 16th century, the church has been committed to translating the Bible into the languages of all the world’s nations, tribes, and peoples. Miraculous stories about the wonderful words of life can be shared from every corner of the globe.

One of the first Protestant missionaries to China not only translated the Bible into Chinese but also into Korean. Independent of Western missionaries, this translation found its way into Korea. Apparently the Bible was so widely copied and read, and so powerfully convicting of faith, that when the first missionaries arrived in Korea just prior to the 20th century, their initial work was to simply travel the country and baptize the believers who had already claimed faith in Jesus as Lord. Today, Korea has one of the highest percentages of Christians in any country in East Asia.

I give thanks for the inspired Word of God which breathes life and faith into those who have ears to hear. Amen.
