READ : Psalm 146
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God. (v. 5 NIV)
No! Not again! How could he face it? Rick, a relatively new Christian in the prison English Bible class, had just received another denial for parole. Yet, he stood with a smile of peace and acceptance on his face, assuring us he was fine and that he believed the Lord had a reason for this. With his simple faith, Rick trusted the Lord completely and knew the hope there is in Jesus Christ for now and the future. This was the hope that sustained him and encouraged him to accept the denial. Thereafter, Rick more diligently studied God’s Word and faithfully prayed for God’s will to be done.
Finally, after more than thirteen years, the long-anticipated day of Rick’s release arrived! Soon he was offered a position as a security guard in a Christian company. Who would have believed he would go from being under security to a place of offering security? His faith continues to grow as he prays that his family will soon accept Jesus Christ, the giver of hope.
May we, too, experience the hope that only Jesus Christ can give as we face the joys and frustrations of each day.
Faithful Father, may my life be a living, vibrant testimony of the hope you give me through Jesus. Amen.
