READ : Isaiah 43:1-4
You are precious in my sight, and honored, and I love you. (v. 4)
Read Isaiah 43:1-4 again, this time using your personal name in place of Jacob and Israel.
In the Bible God says to us again and again, “I love you.” Prayer is our way of saying “I love you too.” The great classic of Christian spirituality, The Cloud of Unknowing, speaks eloquently about the prayer in which we do nothing but offer God our love.
How often should I tell my wife that I love her? More than I do. There is no limit. With my staid heritage I don’t find it easy to express my feelings. Yet that is what is needed for a close and growing relationship.
How often should I express my love for God? Again there is no limit. When I pray I can verbalize my love. But my whole life can also be an expression of love for God. It is the intimate moments spent with God that make the rest of the time flow in love and grace. A song says, “Love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.” When we give our love to God both in prayer and in daily living we end up with more and more love to give.
Thank you for your love, O God. I love you too. Amen.
