READ : John 6:53-69
“You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.” (vv. 67-69 NIV)
Since cerebral palsy makes it difficult for me to communicate, I often just sit and listen. While listening, I have noticed that people talk about so many trivial subjects. I am grateful that technology has made it possible for me to communicate. Since it takes time and effort to put my words together in my speech device, I have learned to just say what is important.
When Jesus spoke, everything he said was critically important. When he taught his followers that to receive eternal life he must become part of them through faith, many didn’t understand or believe, and dropped away. However, the core group of twelve recognized how important his words were and decided to keep following.
Throughout the next fifteen days, I invite you to imagine yourself hanging on every word as we listen to the master teacher. As we crowd around trying to hear better, may his words become more precious to us. By the end of our journey, may each of us echo Peter, “You have the words of eternal life.”
Your words are priceless, Lord. Help us value them more each day.
