Locked Doors

READ : Matthew 7:7-12

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20 NIV)

Having flown across the country and driven for several hours, we just wanted to relax inside our friend’s Florida condo. Dad tried the key that she had given us before leaving California, but it wouldn’t turn. Tracking down the manager, we tried his key—nothing. A locksmith was called.

After obtaining the owner’s permission, he went to work. After several hours he drilled out the corroded lock and the door opened.

Jesus talked about doors and opening them. One is the door to our heart. We alone can unlock and open it. When Jesus knocks on a human heart he enters only if we permit him. Once he is invited, he brings gifts of joy, peace, and everlasting life.

Another door is the door to blessing, and it is unlocked through prayer. When we sincerely ask in faith, Jesus will gladly unlock the storeroom of heaven and give us a forgiving spirit, love for others, and wisdom from heaven.

Thanks to the locksmith’s persistence, we were able to enjoy our vacation. As we persist in prayer, we will become more Christlike and enjoy a closer relationship with our Savior.

Lord, thank you for the doors that you unlock in our lives.
