READ : Matthew 10:5-20
Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. (vv. 19-20 NIV)
It was our church’s turn to lead worship at the Gospel Rescue Mission. When I was asked to give the message, my reactions were, “How can I relate to a group of homeless men? Will they understand my speech device? Will they even listen or are they just there for a bed and a meal?” Hesitantly, I accepted and went to work on my talk.
Despite my doubts, speaking there was an incredible experience. The men really listened. They clapped and I received some hugs. I could hardly believe how the Lord spoke through me. Their response should not have surprised me. God promises that his word will not return to him empty.
When Jesus sent his disciples out to preach his good news to the lost sheep of Israel, he knew they would face opposition. He assured them that the Holy Spirit would speak through them.
The Lord still sends us out to spread his salvation message. We may face opposition, ridicule, or disinterest. But whenever we speak up for him, we can be assured that he will be speaking through us.
Lord, give us the courage to bring your message to a hurting world.
