READ : Matthew 25:1-13[Jesus said], “So, my disciples, always be ready! You don’t know the day or the time when all this will happen.” (Matthew 25:13 CEV)
Speaking through an electronic speech device has taught me how to be prepared. It takes preparation ahead of time for me to say something. It might be programming answers to a Bible study, getting a talk ready, or saving something to tell a coworker or a friend. No one can do these preparations for me. I have to make sure I am ready.
Jesus talked about how to prepare for his second coming in the parable of the ten maidens waiting for the bridegroom. When he was delayed in coming, five of the maidens’ lamps went out because they ran out of oil. They asked those who brought extra if they could borrow some of theirs. They were told to go and buy some for themselves. When they returned they had missed the bridegroom.
To keep our lights burning until the Lord comes, we need to keep worshiping, studying the Bible, and serving others. If we do not have a living relationship with Christ, it will be too late to acquire one when he returns. To be ready for his coming each of us must know him personally. That relationship allows us to hear Jesus say, “Enter, come enjoy the heavenly banquet.”
Lord, help us to prepare for your return.
