READ : Philippians 1:12-18
What does it matter? Just this, that Christ is proclaimed in every way. (v. 18)
Our local paper told the story of a young man and his friends who had been boating, fishing, and camping in our part of northern Michigan, some 700 miles from their crime-plagued neighborhood in Washington, D.C. When asked how he liked it here the young man answered: “I enjoy not having to fight so much. . . . [In D.C.] people kill people because of the territory. Up here, I don’t have to worry about it.”
Among the lakes and forests of our area this group of inner-city youth from 859 House, a Christian guidance and mentoring center in our nation’s capital, could relax and enjoy a summer vacation. These kids, ages 8 to 18, were invited here by local church members and other sponsors. In Tom’s words (the main sponsor), “It was a great joy to have the kids here. By doing this we’re just saying ‘we love you.’” That was Tom’s way of sharing in witness to Christ and the gospel.
Use your imagination. Look around you. Where is the need? Find your special way to put “hands and feet” into your witness for Christ.
Lord, lead me in helpful ways to share your love with others. Amen.
