READ : Joshua 1:1-9
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (v. 9 NIV)
Transitions in life are difficult. They cause us stress and uneasiness. We are used to the way things are, and change makes us fearful about the future.
Few people like change. Yet change is a part of life. In fact, the one thing you can always count on is that things will change – especially today, when changes come at an alarmingly fast rate in our world.
Change has always been a fact of life. Our Scripture lesson today tells about the change in leadership from Moses to Joshua. As if that were not enough, the people were also about to enter a new land. It was all rather scary.
But the Lord had the answer: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” That is a good reminder not only for today but for just about every day. No one knows the future. The stock market may crash. I might lose my job. A loved one could die suddenly. But remember, “The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Lord, help me to be strong and courageous by trusting you. Amen.
