READ : Joshua 8:1-27
Then the Lord said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered [it] into your hands.” (v. 1 NIV)
If there is one thing that we can learn from the message of the Bible, it is that God gives us second chances. I like that concept. It fits well with the way I play golf.
If I have a really bad drive off the tee, my golfing buddy Mark says, “Why don’t you hit another one, John?” Gratefully, I tee up the ball again and hit a magnificent drive down the middle of the fairway, fifty yards farther than Mark!
It’s great playing with such a gracious golf partner. But it’s even greater living in the presence of a God who gives us second chances. “The Lord is compassionate and gracious . . . abounding in love. He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.” (Psalm 103:8, 10)
God gave the Israelites a second chance at Ai. This time they obeyed him and all went well. What a blessing that God still loves us despite our sins and blunders! And the greatest proof of that is that God sent Jesus to save us from them.
Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
