My Days

READ : Psalm 139:1-18

All the days ordained for me were written in your book. (v. 16 NIV)

I recently had a life-changing experience that led me to deeply reflect on the wonder
and awe of the truth that God, as my Creator, planned every detail and every day that he
ordained for me.

When I was seven years old I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. The diagnosis was
that I had the most severe type of this disease, and the doctors told my parents that I
would not live past 25 years. Fast forward to my 25th year, where after a series of events
that were unmistakably brought about by God’s hand alone, the doctors had to reassess my
case. After many tests we finally got an accurate diagnosis, which was very different than
the one I first received. I had MD, but a completely different kind. Suddenly we were told
that my condition wouldn’t noticeably worsen much more, and there was no limited life
expectancy.

This abrupt change served as a strong reminder: doctors are wise and needed, but God
alone knows our days and every detail of our lives. He knows us through and
through—our past, present, and future—as the psalmist declares. May we rejoice
and praise his wisdom and goodness for his plan in each of our lives.

PRAYER

We thank you, Lord, that you know our days.
