How God's People Overcame

READ : Revelation 12:10-12

The accuser of our brothers has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before

our God. (v. 10)

The visions of Revelation 12 and 13 describe vividly the enemies God’s people face.
There is first “that old serpent, the devil” with remarkable powers and murderous intent.
He’s the “accuser” and persecutor of Jesus’ followers. He’s “the deceiver of the whole

Next is the “first beast,” representing the oppressive power of totalitarian rule. He
gets his authority from the dragon and awes the whole earth.

The second beast stands for the religious priesthood that fosters and compels the
idolatry of emperor-worship. He commands, “Bow to the beast or die! Buy from the beast or

How can the servants of God withstand these onslaughts and even prevail? It’s by “the
blood of the Lamb,” by the victory of Jesus’ self-giving love and glorious rising. He has
triumphed over the “accuser” and every destructive power. He is the one and only true
Lord. In his name, believers can resist the devil and all his minions — and see them

Yes, and also, “by the word of their testimony.” Their believing proclamation of the
gospel shakes the foundations of hell, “for they did not love and cling to life even when
faced with death” (v. 11 AMP). They are ready to lay down their lives for Christ and the
gospel. They are the ones who can truly sing, “We shall overcome!”


Lord, help us by your name and power to remain faithful unto death.
