READ : Revelation 22:20-21
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all. Amen. (vv. 20-21)
Here’s the final use in the Bible of that beautiful word, “Come.” Right after Jesus’
third promise, “Surely, I am coming soon,” all who love and trust him cry from the heart,
“Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” Did you know that this is what you ask for every time you pray
the Lord’s Prayer? Jesus’ return is the ultimate answer, the final fulfillment of God’s
loving purpose. Then God’s name will be fully hallowed. Then his kingdom will have finally
arrived. Then his will shall be perfectly done on earth as it is in heaven.
Do you long for that? Are you praying day by day, “Come, Lord Jesus!” If you do,
there’s a crown of righteousness waiting for you (2 Tim. 4:8). And did you know that you
may be able to hasten the answer? That’s what the apostle Peter teaches that we can do,
“leading lives of holiness and godliness, waiting for and hastening the coming of the day
of God” (2 Pet. 3:11-12 NRSV).
Imagine it, sisters and brothers, your heartfelt prayer, your good living, your loving
service, your gifts and labors for the gospel, your toils and sufferings, may well speed
the coming of that great day! Isn’t that supremely worth living and laboring for? So let’s
pour our hearts, and all the energies of our lives, all our serving and working into this,
the Bible’s last, best prayer:
COME, LORD JESUS!
Come, Lord Jesus!
