The Present Heaven

READ : Revelation 6:9-11; 7:9-17

They were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer. (6:11)

A little girl was taking an evening walk with her
father. With wonder she looked up at the stars and
exclaimed, “Daddy, if the wrong side of heaven is so
beautiful, what must the right side be like?”

What will heaven be like? Let’s refer to that place
where believers go at their death as “the present
heaven.” The present heaven is where Jesus reigns at the
right hand of God and intercedes for us (Rom. 8:34). The
present heaven, filled with the angels, saints, and
majesty of God, will continue until “the new heaven and
new earth” described in Revelation 21:1-4 becomes a
reality.

The present heaven is the place where believers who
have preceded us in death live
gloriously with the Lord. Here they are clothed with
righteousness and they anticipate
when all things will be fulfilled upon the second coming
of Jesus.

We really can’t imagine what the life of the redeemed
in glory is like. But we can live
with the assurance that someday, following the
conclusion of our earthly lives, we will be
there too. The chorus of a familiar hymn puts it this
way, “What a day that will be, When
my Jesus I shall see, And I look upon his face, The One
who saved me by his grace; When he
takes me by his hand and leads me thru the promised
land. What a day, glorious day that
will be!”

PRAYER

Mighty Savior, thank you for preparing a place where I can live with you. Amen.
