A Mystery Revealed

According to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret . . . (v. 25)

Now to God who is able! What an acclamation! During this season of celebrating, we are tethered to the promises of God. “Joy to the world, the Lord is come,” we sing—while recognizing that the birth of the King is just the beginning of the fulfillment. Even so, the Apostle Paul commits us, his readers, to God and to all the promises of God revealed in Jesus Christ.

“Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ!” At Christmas we celebrate the first act, “the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages but has now been disclosed” (vv. 25-26). But we await the final act, when every knee in heaven and on earth will bow to the King of kings and all things will be under his control. This promise strengthens us. We are tethered to it. In faithful obedience we wait. As we live between the “now” and the “not yet,” our faith is nourished by the good news of Jesus Christ. Immersed in the promises of God revealed in Scripture, we journey to the manger of Bethlehem’s Babe and we wait for the full disclosure of him to all the world. We wait for the final, public coronation of Bethlehem’s Babe—who is now the risen, reigning Lord Jesus Christ!

PRAYER All of our praise rises to the One who is strong enough to make us strong! Glory to God alone. Amen.
