Run in such a way as to get the prize. (v. 24 NIV)

In the fall of 2010, along with a treasured friend, I ran a marathon. During months of training we covered several hundred miles. Sometimes we ran together, other times alone. We traveled city streets, paved paths, and country roads. There were hills and valleys, sunshine and rain.

When race day came, we were ready. The early miles passed quickly, but in time muscle aches and fatigue set in. As much as we valued our preparation and as powerful as the experience of the race was, it was our friendship that really made the difference. We relied on each other to keep going as we focused on the finish line.

Do you feel like your life is a marathon? Maybe your health is bad, your work or family situation is hard, or you have recently experienced a loss. It's hard when you feel as though you are running alone. But as Christians we know that, whatever we face, God is with us. If we trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior, the joy of heaven is just across the finish line.

The marathon experience would not have been the same if we had quit before the end. If the path before you is hard, keep running “in such a way as to get the prize.” The Lord will run with you through the hills and valleys, so stay the course!

Dear Jesus, help me to fix my eyes on you, knowing you endured the cross for me.
