The One and Only Way

READ : John 14:1-6

All things were created through him. (Col. 1:16)

Jesus declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” There may be many roads in life, some of which look promising, but they are all dead ends. Only one road gets through to the desired destination of the Father's house (v. 2).

But if Jesus is the only valid road for us to get to the Father, he's also the only road for the Father to get to us. The Bible tells us repeatedly that God the Father always does his work through God the Son: “All things were created through him.”

But this is just the beginning. In verses that use the same preposition through, we read that through Jesus, God reconciles us to himself (2 Cor. 5:18) and adopts us as his children (Eph. 1:5). Through Jesus, God gives us victory over sin and death (1 Cor. 15:57). Through Jesus God leads us to eternal life (Rom. 5:21). Through Jesus God pours his Spirit upon us (Titus 3:5-6), fills us with the fruit of righteousness (Phil. 1:11), and more.

Jesus is the one way for us to come to God, and he's the one way that God comes to us. Some might protest this, demanding that other paths should be available. But this one way is not a restriction; it's a wonderful miracle of grace. God made us, loves us, and calls and blesses us— through Jesus his Son.

Thank you, Lord, for coming to us in Jesus Christ.
